Though miles away, from the Silk Road, Calgary is in many ways still connected to it. This linkage is woven through the heritage of people that have come from Lebanon, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and China and have made Calgary their home. These Calgarians have come together, much like their ancient predecessors, to spread the love of their culture through their spices, art, poetry, which add another unique flavour to Canada’s multicultural tapestry.
This year, the Calgary Multicultural Centre will showcase poetry in its various forms from regions along the Silk Road. A Tapestry of Poems is a series of poetry nights featuring famous classical poets such as Khalil Gibran, Rumi, Tagore, Omar Khayyam, among the many others.
